Explore the Unspoiled Paradise of Brazil's Costa Verde and Ilha Grande
Few places can match the unspoilt beauty of Brazil’s Costa Verde, a stunning area of virgin rainforests, impossibly clear waters and towering mountains, all just a couple of hours’ drive from the buzz of Rio. Within this paradise lies Ilha Grande, a very well-protected and preserved national park, where dense jungle and white beaches are the order of the day, surrounded by seas so appealing and jungle so alive, that the whole region was named after them (‘The Green Coast’). Here, in this Garden of Eden, where vehicles are nowhere to be seen, we’ll feel a deep connection with nature as we enjoy the various hiking trails that find their way around the immaculate island, reaching refreshing waterfalls and dreamy beaches; the perfect spot to cool off and soak in the pure beauty of this natural haven.
Best travel period? This tour can be made throughout the year. Between November and June the weather is unstable and hot, between July and October is the dry season and it can get cool at night.
Itinerary
Day 1: Rio de Janeiro - Ilha Grande
Arrival at Rio de Janeiro Airport and transfer by road to the coastal town of Conceição de Jacareí, where a flexboat will be waiting to transport us to Vila do Abraão, the only town in Ilha Grande. We will check in at our hotel and begin to experience the nice and peaceful atmosphere of the island. Overnight @ Pousada Naturalia | Standard Room.
IMPORTANT: Transfer time from Rio de Janeiro is 07h30, 11h30 and 15h00, arriving in Ilha Grande at 10h30, 14h30, 18h00.
Day 2: Ilha Grande
Departure to Pouso Beach at Enseada de Palmas walking. From this beach we go through a trail (15/20 minutes) towards Lopes Mendes beach which, undoubtedly, is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. With its fine white sands and crystal clear waters, the beach captivates all visitors. This beach receives waves that appeal to swimmers as well as experienced surfers. It is 2.4 kilometers long and at the end it has a beautiful and clean stream, as well as a charming chapel and a mosaic by Silvio Cavalheiro on an old ship barrel. We then return to Pouso beach to catch our taxi boat back to Vila do Abraão. Overnight @ Pousada Naturalia | Standard Room.
Day 3: Ilha Grande
Departure by boat to Feiticeira beach, a small and delightful beach at the Estrelas bay. On this beach, free time to swim or walk to the Feiticeira waterfall. We will continue through the Saco do Céu, a true ecological sanctuary for its mangroves that form a habitat of various species. On this lovely bay, in the night, it is possible to admire the reflex of stars on the surface of the water, reason why it has that name (Estrelas). We’ll stop at Fora beach with its fishermen houses and rustic restaurants along the river that ends at Perequê beach. Overnight @ Pousada Naturalia | Standard Room.
Day 4: Ilha Grande - Rio de Janeiro, Departure
Transfer by road to the airport of Rio de Janeiro for departure to our next destination.
IMPORTANT: Transfer time from Ilha Grande is 09h00, 12h00 and 17h30, arriving in Rio de Janeiro at 12h00, 15h30, 20h00.
