Buenos Aires: Journey in the Footsteps of Pope Francis

Buenos Aires is a privileged and unique place to connect with the life, work, impact and effect on Argentinean culture of Pope Francis or Papa de Flores, as he is called in his native neighborhood. For this reason, we invite you to enjoy a 3-hour private tour to get to know the most outstanding and significant places of his life in Buenos Aires.

Itinerary

The Basilica of San José de Flores - A Catholic temple in the neighborhood of Flores, inaugurated on February 18, 1883. It was here where Jorge Mario Bergoglio, at age 17, decided to consecrate his life to God. Notably, Pope Francis chose March 19, the day of Saint Joseph, to begin his pontificate.

Childhood Home - A visit to the home located in Membrillar 531 where the Pope spent his childhood and discovered his religious vocation. This old house, with its distinctive white walls and old barred door, is marked with a plaque featuring Pope Francis image and a special message.

Neighborhood Square - This square served as the meeting point for local children. Jorge Bergoglio spent many afternoons here playing, surrounded by friends and childhood idols.

Early Education and Faith - Learn about Bergoglios early years, being the firstborn to Italian immigrants and how he learned to pray from his grandmother and the nuns at Colegio Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia, where he also received his first communion.

Baptism and Choir Memories - Jorge Bergoglio received his first Catholic sacrament in the Parish of San Carlos Borromeo and sang in the choir at the Basilica of María Auxiliadora. These places are notable for also being connected to Carlos Gardel and Ceferino Namuncurá, but it is Bergoglio's baptism that remains a significant highlight.
